Almost daily I have people asking what I do to assure I don't get the flu. I will tell you something I don't do is get a flu shot. I do not want the foreign antibodies in my body. The way to be flu proof is to keep your immune system STRONG. Keeping one's immune system strong is multifaceted. Here are a few things.
Get outside! You need Vitamin D and the BEST way to get it is to get out in the sun. I know, they told you to stay out of the sun but I'm here to tell you the sun is a healer. Obviously you don't want to get burned - use wisdom. And use natural sunscreens, nothing with chemicals. I personally use coconut oil when I know I'll be spending a lot of time in the sun. It is a travesty that we avoid the sun. In the 1940's in the sanitariums, they purposely placed patients in the sun to heal from various ailments! Guess what? It worked!
Up your vitamin C. When this present flu broke out, I heard a doctor from China say that he was treating his patients with high doses of Vitamin C. I immediately increased my intake of all natural vitamin C. I use a time-release C which keeps my cells saturated.
Minimize sugar consumption!
Excessive sugar consumption can deplete the body’s nutrient balance, which can then trigger a cascade of inflammation and metabolic disruption. How healthy you are will determine the amount of sugar your body can handle. Personally, I eat a low carbohydrate diet and therefore do not consume sugar. Carbohydrates are non-essential in our bodies and many of us do best to minimize and avoid them.
Supplement! Most of us know today's food is footless when it comes to nutrients. Our soil has been mineral deficient since the 30's so if it's not in the soil, it's not going to be in the plants grown in the soil. Therefore, to get the nutrients we need it's necessary to supplement our diet. I prefer all natural, food based supplements. One of the supplements I use DAILY is a supplement that works to strengthen DNA. Strong DNA determine the length and quality of one's life. I'm into living LONG and STRONG!
Avoid unhealthy fats. Vegetable oils such as corn oil, peanut oil, canola oil (made from a weed) are highly refined and highly toxic! (PUFAs) These oils do really bad things in your body including suppressing your immune system. New research is telling us these oils are a contributing factor to dementia and Alzheimer's. I tend to eat moderate protein and high fat but not from any of the above mentioned sources. Animal fat, or avocado are two GOOD sources of fat. Sad to say, so many are living on processed foods and almost ALL processed foods have BAD oils in them!
